2012 Blue Jeans Week 10

Welcome to Blue Jeans Momma.  I am so happy you came to visit.  I am doing my 4th year of a picture-a-day Project Life to document the life of my family of 6.  I try to blog on
Mondays--my week in pictures
Wednesday--mouth-watering Wednesdays where I share a recipe--a simple, easy, yummy recipe
Fridays--Fabulous Fridays where I share random things I love

Can you believe we are 10 weeks into this year?  They say times flies, but as I grow older it seems to fly faster, and I am not appreciating the spring forward time change.  To me that just seems to put things on 'fast forward.'  I think we should all adopt Arizona's policy and not have the time changes.  It would make my house happier.  It was not a happy morning getting everyone up today.  Hope it went better at yours :)  Here is what we have been up to this week. . .

Sunday:  Sunday evening desserts are a very treasured tradition at our house.  Usually we eat them while playing a game at the kitchen table.  Tonight we had key lime tarts and played Yahtzee.

Monday:  Monday nights are family night at our house.  We have a religious lesson, sing songs, plan the week, play games, and have treats.  We rotate who is in charge of each activity.  Tonight Ben was in charge of activities, and he set up a Nerf gun shooting range in the family room with blocks to hit.  You got so many points for hitting certain blocks.  I think my score was 3, and Mr J smoked us all with his sharp shooting ability and won.  Miss A is taking her turn shooting while everyone watches.

Tuesday:  My family has varied musical tastes, but lately the one album we all love is Adele 21.  It is constantly blaring in the van while I am driving (thus this picture) and is on everyone's favorite play lists.  Even Mr J can sing you all the words to all the songs.  "Rumor has it" is his favorite :)

Wednesday:  In case you didn't know, we live in a small town.  My parents also live in this small town.  It is the small town I was blessed to grow up in.  My mom is the librarian at my kids' elementary school.  How awesome is that to be able to go to the library at school and check out a book and to get a hug from your Nana while doing it?  That has been a blessing in my kids' lives.  Today I worked at my mom's library as her para.  It was fun to check in and out books to all the kids--including my own, and spend the day helping my mom.  This is me and my amazing mom in her library at school.

Thursday:  In the evenings before bed Ben likes to read aloud to the kids.  He usually reads to them in our bedroom.  He is currently reading The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsail.  While he reads Mr J likes to bring in his train pieces and make train tracks.  He has always been a huge Thomas the Train lover and lover of trains in general.  I love this.  After 3 girls it is fun to have lots of trains in the house.  Sometimes it can be rather annoying to step on train tracks in the middle of the night, but I keep reminding myself, "You are going to miss this one day," and I know I will, and I also know that day will come much quicker than I want it to.

Friday:  It was a beautiful day after school today.  To enjoy it Mr J and Miss E went out on the trampoline to read and enjoy the sunshine.  They came prepared with blankets, water bottles, and snacks.

Saturday:  Today was our state's Republican caucus.  I am very proud to be an American, and I take my right to vote very seriously.  When we found out a few months ago that our caucus was an hour away (one way) there was no doubt in my mind we would go.  Voting is very important to me, and I honestly don't think I have missed voting at a local, state, or national election since I turned 18 and was able to vote.  We live in a country where we are blessed to have freedom and a choice, and we need to vote and exercise that freedom and choice.  So, Friday Ben and I drove two hours round trip with my parents to vote at our caucus, and even though who I voted for didn't win our state, I still voted, and it was worth it.

Hope you all have a good week and that everyone adjusts quickly to the time change--that is what I am wishing for here!  Soccer and track start this week--let spring begin!

Blue Jeans Week 43

Sunday:  This was actually from Sunday a few weeks ago, but the picture got "lost" somewhere between the computer and camera.  Does that every happen to you?  Anyway, once a year the kids in our church do the program at church.  The kids sing, do all the talks, and it is always a highlight for everyone.  It is the Primary Sacrament Meeting program.  This was Miss O's last year, and she wasn't too excited about doing it.  She wishes she didn't have to do it at all :)  Miss E and Mr J had no problem, though, and they all 3 did a good job.
Monday:  Miss E and Mr J wanted to play Candy Land, but, believe it or not, we didn't have the game.  I must have gotten rid of it accidentally several years ago :), but that didn't detour them.  They just made their own game board and cards.  It is really cute.  We played it tonight.

Tuesday:  We were singing some songs and Mr J and Miss E decided they wanted to play the drums along with us while we sang.  The kids made these drums at a workshop several years ago, and we have used them a lot over the years.
Wednesday:  Working on my Countdown to Christmas stuff, and today I started on getting our Christmas letters done.  Doing a little bit at a time each week gets them done easily, and my hands don't hurt from all that writing at one time :)
Thursday:  We have some really good friends that moved here a year ago from Mexico.  She makes the most delicious food, and we have been over several times to eat it.  One of the best things she makes is black beans, and so today I went over, and she taught me how to make her black beans.  So yum!  Mine don't taste quite as good as hers, but I am learning.
Friday:  Took a picture of a receipt from today.  Won't see this date again in my lifetime :)

Saturday:  We went to the city today and got to go to Trader's Joe's with a friend and her family.  We had 8 kids between the two of us ages 2 to 13.  It was kind of crazy!  But the store was cool, and we got some yummy stuff.  Know I know what everyone is talking about when they say Trader Joe's!  Can't wait to go back!

Hope you all have a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Remember your blessings!

Bubble baths and What are you listening to?

Had to go to Wal-Mart this morning for stuff. Always need more of that. . .and Mr J found some Disney Cars bubble bath. $1.50 for bath time fun isn't too bad, so it made its way into the cart. Now it is right after lunch and the tub is being filled with water and "revved up Raspberry" Cars bubble bath! Life is sweet. I don't know how he will handle all day kindergarten next year because I know they don't let you take bubble baths in the middle of the day. Bubble baths are sweet!

Another sweet thing is music. We love music in our house. There is always a wide variety of it playing throughout the house--on the piano, on the keyboard, on the stereo, computer, MP3, ipod. . .good stuff. We had our FHE lesson last night on listening to good music. These are some of our favorites we've been listening to lately.

Jen--I discovered Jon Schmidt's "Love Song meets Love Song" which is a piano/cello instrumental piece combining Taylor Swift's "Love Song" and Cold Play's "Viva La Vida." I LOVE this! I just hit the repeat button, play it really loud, and it is amazing the stuff I get done!

Ben--he has a much broader appreciation of music than I do. He likes everything I like plus a whole lot more. He is a big fan of the amazon $.99 or free album of the day. Some of the stuff he downloads I look and him and think "You like that?" Much, much, MUCH broader appreciation of music than I have, but the world would be really boring if we all liked the same thing, right? He's been enjoying Rodrigo Y Gabriella's "11:11"

Miss A usually has either High School Musical playing or Taylor Swift. Pretty predictable for a tween, and I can handle those too.

Miss O is always listening to Disney's The Lion King Broadway musical soundtrack. We took the girls to see that show last year (it is amazing! Loved it!), and she loved it. She got the CD from Miss A for her birthday, and it is by far her favorite.

Miss E almost always has her headphones on walking around the house. Her MP3 players batteries need to be charged every other day it seems because she uses it so much, but Miss E is not listening to music, nope, she is an addicted audio book listener. I don't think there is any room for music left on her player because she has it so full of books she likes to listen to. Her current read is Patrick Carman's The Land of Elyon series.

Mr J has been loving Sandra Boynton's "Dog Train" book and CD. That shouldn't surprise anyone--A CD with music about trains? He is all over that! It does have a song on it called "Banging on Pots and Pans" so he had to get his own pot and pan band to play along the other day. Oh yeah, banging on pots and pans. . .love that music!

So, what are you listening to?
