Daily December 12: A gift for Him

What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man I would do my part,
Yet what can I give Him?  Give my heart.

by Christina Rossetti

One of the things we do in December to help our family remember the Savior is fill His manger.  What gift can we give Him?  We can do kind deeds for others.  I make a paper "manger" out of card stock and cut some small pieces of yarn.  We place this by the Christmas tree.  Each time the kids, Ben, or I do a secret act of service or kindness for anyone, we get to put one piece of yarn or "straw" in the manger.

Our goal is on Christmas Day the baby Jesus will have a soft bed to lay in.  Our secret acts of service and kindness are a gift we can give to Him.

  1. Wow and so wonderful to really know the reason for the season! I am sure you have no worries of a soft bed provided for baby Jesus!

  2. I love this idea! Great thought. And I love poetry by Rossetti. Always ironic that she turned out to be such a saint and her brother quite the opposite. Oh well.
